Editor's note:
When Jim and I visited California a few years ago, thinking we mightmove there, we were horrified to discover that most apartments did not allow cats. Up here in western Washington, nearly every apartment complex is pet-friendly. Therefore, I am thrilled with this news. Hope you will be, too.
Rental Homes, Condos, And Pets
How many more millions of dogs and cats would have homes
if more rental properties and Condos allowed them? The
fact is, about half of all renters have pets. Landlords
can have fewer vacancies if they allow furry tenants. To
encourage pet-friendly landlords, the Humane Society of
the United States has launched
www.rentwithpets.org.
Landlords can use the Web site to find sample leases and
pet policies, as well as tips on identifying responsible
pet owners. For pet owners, the Humane Society suggests
developing a "pet resume," complete with references from

Dear APLB Member,
I hope you had a good Fourth of July respite from everything, and your summer is starting off well.
We are pleased to announce the start of a fifth chatroom. This one will have a special focus, however. It is designed especially for animal care professionals
of all kinds. There is a great deal of burnout and “compassion fatigue” suffered by these good people, and we are now geared up to assist them.
At first, this special chatroom will be open for two hours – the first and third Tuesday of every month, starting at 7:PM (Eastern) Please note that this
is an hour earlier than our four pet bereavement chatrooms. We hope to eventually make this every Tuesday, and for a full three hours.
Please tell others about this, as we need to start getting the word out. Your vet and his/her staff would appreciate learning about this. Nowhere else
has this been done, and we are all proud that the APLB (as usual) is creating new inroads into helping anyone who is hurting because of the death of beloved
animals. Wildlife rehabilitators, sanctuary personnel as well as zoo personnel can also benefit from this new venue we are creating.
The first session will be on Tuesday, July 19.
Warmly,
Dr. Wallace Sife
Pres., APLB
