All black cats wear bells on Friday the 13th in French Lick Springs, Indiana.

Cats can only be taken on to the street on leads in Lorinc, Hungary.ÊOfficials say the measure will protect the public from the "dangerous menace of free range cats."

Joint custody of a family pet, including cats, is not allowed when a couple divorces in Madison Wisconsin. The feline is legally awarded to whoever happens to have possession of it at the time of the initial separation.

Cats in International Falls, Minnesota are not allowed to chase dogs up telephone poles.

Fights between cats and dogs are prohibited by statute in Barber, North Carolina.

Pet cats to run loose without a taillight in Sterling, Colorado.

Ventura County, California, cats are not allowed to have sex without a permit.

Cats living in Cresskill, New Jersey must wear three bells to warn birds of their whereabouts.

Duluth, Minnesota felines may not sleep in a bakery.

California bans cats from mating publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship.

In Zion, Illinois, it is illegal for anyone to give lighted cigars to cats.

Cats may not yowl after 9 pm in Columbus, Georgia.

On this blog I have, so far, placed cat-related items that I thought cat-lovers would appreciate, as I do.  However, I have not written much myself.  I hope to be changing this. 

I live in Washington State with my kitties: Gabrielle, Maryah and Meriwether Lewis (Lewie) Merryfield.  I have one human daughter, Lynden, and three feline kids.  I will try to write about them more often.

I lost my husband and two kitties within a year-and-a-half of each other, which was quite traumatic.  Mikey (Mickens) died on August 2nd, 2006.  My husband, Jim, died on August 19, 2007, and Jaspur, my black cat, died on March 6th, 2008.  I am so thankful I still have Gabbie, Maryah and Lewie. 

I have been writing haiku over the last year.  PURRhaps I will share some of them.

Just A Cat

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a cat," or "that's a lot of money for just a cat." They don't understand the * distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a cat." Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a cat." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a cat," but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been spent with "just a cat," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a cat" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you, too, think it's "just a cat," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise" or "just a promise." "Just a cat" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a cat" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a cat" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and the folks like me, it's not "just a cat" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a cat" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a cat" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a person."
